THIS SPIDER WOULDN'T DIE

I was about to wash my hands in the bathroom, when I spotted a big spider by the side of the sink. I removed my slippers immediately, and hit it hard. Considering the level of force I applied, I was so sure it was going to die. 

Well, it did not. I tried again, and this time around, I hit two times consecutively, harder than I had done before. (In fact, I was scared I was going to break the sink.) However, to my greatest surprise, the spider remained at the exact position it was. Unruffled. 

At this point, I knew something was definitely wrong somewhere. It was until I brought the dim torchlight (which I placed by the window earlier) closer to the sink, that I realized that it was its shadow I was hitting all the while. I mean, it’s quite funny because the shadow looked so real!  It was after this discovery, I faced the ‘real spider’, and killed it with just one strike... 

Shadows have great resemblance to the actual image, yet, they are not real. You cannot touch, feel, or catch them. It was clear that I really wanted to kill the spider, but I was channeling my energy and time in the wrong direction. 

Sometimes, we get carried away and begin to chase things that present themselves to be what we need, when in the real sense they are only counterfeit images of the actual thing. 

You see, one thing the devil always seeks to do is to divert a man’s attention from time to time so that he can spend his life pursuing the wrong things. Some of these things even grow to become idols in our hearts and eventually give value that is only ephemeral. 

As we go through different seasons in our lives, it is essential that we calm down, pause, and be sure that we are not following what we ‘think’ is right. So that we don't waste a lot of time chasing shadows. 

The singular strike that is needed to breakthrough and conquer certain situations completely is as simple as turning to God for wisdom and direction. (Prov 3:6)Obeying just one instruction given by God could be all that is needed to get the required results. The Lord help us to channel our energies in the right direction.

I left the examination hall that afternoon with so much anxiety. I just hoped that everything would eventually turn out fine. The aggregate score of each candidate for the examination would be sent via a text message the next morning.  Those who knew me well, understood that I never joked with having a good sleep. But this time, I kept rolling from one end of the bed to the other as it was quite difficult for me to sleep.
