INTIMACY

As much as proximity can be a good leverage for building intimacy; proximity is not a guarantee that an intimate relationship will be developed. Two people can be living in the same house but if there is no constant communication, they can be two worlds apart.

It is in communicating and spending time with each other, that they get to know each other. They get to express their deepest thoughts and feelings. Intimacy is not about 'always being together'. It is much more about making conscious effort to connect with another person on a deeper level.

No matter how much you claim to love the other person, if you do not put in deliberate efforts to nurture the relationship or friendship, it can turn sour. What you don't nurture, can't grow.

The same thing applies to our relationship with God. Are we carefully nurturing our relationship with him by making conscious efforts to spend time with him?

Truth be told, it takes conscious effort because there are a lot of things fighting for our attention from time to time (work, social media, among other things).

You know, we give time to the things that are important to us. But if our priorities are not set right, we can give time to things that are actually less important. If we have misplaced priorities, we can give a lot of time to things that are 'interesting' but do not really add value to us. Ha-ha! Things that add value to us and contribute to our growth, most times are not always 'interesting'.

If we were asked this question -- Is developing an intimate relationship with God important to you? Most of us would likely say YES.But do we actually create time to be with him, even when we don't feel like it? Well, if the answer is NO, then we would have to check and reset our priorities. Know this; no time spent with God, genuinely, is a waste.

Building intimacy with the Holy Spirit is a perpetual journey. It is not a destination. There is more and more to learn from him.

Above all, ask him to help you to be consistent. It is not easy. Stop depending on strong will. It has limits. The Holy Spirit can provide insightful ways that can help keep you on track, even amidst the hustle and bustle of life..

I left the examination hall that afternoon with so much anxiety. I just hoped that everything would eventually turn out fine. The aggregate score of each candidate for the examination would be sent via a text message the next morning.  Those who knew me well, understood that I never joked with having a good sleep. But this time, I kept rolling from one end of the bed to the other as it was quite difficult for me to sleep. All that went through my head were thoughts of what I would score in the examination.  At exactly 7am, my phone vibrated as it would when a text message was delivered.
