WHY CHICKEN OUT?

Miley kept mute, not because he did not have anything to say. He had a whole lot of things to bring to the table. He was so sure that the ideas he had will definitely work out. At least if it did not work totally, most of it will.

Miley wanted those ideas to find expression. His desire was to bring life to the models he had in his head. That they begin to flow as words from his mouth. As much as he wanted to do that, he never uttered a word.

 

Sometimes, we keep quiet not because we do not have something to say, but because wisdom requires that it is not the right time to say it or it could be for some other valid reasons. Very true, right? Miley did not speak due to these reasons. The only issue was that, beyond the ideas running through his head, he also feared his fears.  Yes, that was the very reason he kept quiet. 

For years now, he had been stuck with the fear that others might reject him. ‘Shit!’, he thought to himself as he sat down among his colleagues. He had missed a big opportunity the director presented the previous month. He knew deep down that it was meant for him. But no, he would not just speak up. Miley kept mute because he was too afraid of what the others might say, if he gave his view or opinion.

What if they did not accept what he had to offer? What if he did not speak well as he should? What if they looked at him condescendingly, and told him it would not work? Perhaps one of his colleagues who does not give a damn! would stand up and say ‘That does not make sense!’ Or probably everyone would just keep quiet as if no one had talked.

He was not ready for any oppositions, he did not want to hear NO! That was Miley’s fear. Just like him, normally, we have one fear or the other. The truth remains that, it is not everybody who will accept us or support what we have to offer, which is not unusual. 

Our fear might be different from Miley’s. Regardless of what it might be, do not run away from it. The courageous are those who have fears but have learnt to gain control over them. They faced it and overcame! 

Do not allow your fears to gain mastery over you. Above all, take your fears to God and believe him to assist you in conquering them as they come. Let your fears fear you. Do not chicken out!
