MASQUERADE

 They were better than me; they had value, more money, more clothes. That they carried something and I carried nothing, were the thoughts that filled my head. I completely disregarded my worth; I felt I was not good enough. So, instead of bringing out the true me, a seemingly better option was what I opted for. My decision was to wear a mask; one that looked like them. I wanted to be everything like them.   To speak like them, to walk like they do, to wear the clothes they wore, to eat and drink just like they did, even to laugh just like them. No additions or subtractions or multiplications. Not a close resemblance or similitude. No, I just wanted to be them! It was not for me, I understood that well. I mean, the things which they held on to and enjoyed doing. I definitely did not belong there. I tried and tried and tried. I had put a lot of effort and hardwork as if I was preparing for a professional examination. Soon, I had started doing the things they were doing. It was hard but it did not matter to me; I just wanted to feel among, at least I wouldn’t look odd. I decided to exchange the original copy of me for a perfidious one.  Everything about me was so faux. I could feel it right in my bones to my joints and marrow that this was not me. It still did not matter, I wanted to possess their abilities. I did not know I was different. Now, this was me competing with them because I was so insecure about the value I carried too. You know, it’s so much stress trying to be like someone else. Why? It’s simply because every single person is peculiar. Even those born on the same day are so much different. There is something exceptional about one that makes him different from another. So, trying to be like another would only result in a fake you, because you can never be someone else. Never.  Of course, you could gain insight or inspiration from someone you greatly admire, but do not become competitive or try to be like them.  Be yourself, be real, be authentic. And let God bring you gradually into what he has ordained you to be. Originality rocks!

I invite you today to accept Jesus Christ into your heart, if you have not. He loves you. And he wants you to radiate beauty and fulfill purpose. All you have to do is believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that God raised him from the dead to give you eternal life. Say this with me. 

"Lord Jesus, I come before you today. I believe and confess that you died for me and rose again to give me eternal life. Thank you for coming into my life. Thank you for forgiving my sin. Thank you for saving me. I am born again. I am saved. I am a child of God in Jesus name, Amen."

MY JOURNEY (1)

I left the examination hall that afternoon with so much anxiety. I just hoped that everything would eventually turn out fine. The aggregate score of each candidate for the examination would be sent via a text message the next morning.  Those who knew me well, understood that I never joked with having a good sleep. But this time, I kept rolling from one end of the bed to the other as it was quite difficult for me to sleep. All that went through my head were thoughts of what I would score in the examination.  At exactly 7am, my phone vibrated as it would when a text message was delivered. I was so certain that it was the message containing the result. I rushed to pick up my phone on the table beside the bed, and there it was. “Recharge N400 and get up to N1000 worth of airtime.
